I remember seeing old footage of Bobby Jones chipping over an opponent's ball on the green to hole out. And I've searched everywhere online that I can think of so if you have any clue or any idea on places to look for the answer, or even better the answer itself, I would really appreciate it. Thanks.
Hello. Anyone? Come on I know someone out there knows something about this.

From what I can determine, markers are first mentioned in the Rules of Golf in 1956. Prior to 1952, stymies were allowed, which is what you saw in the old footage of Bobby Jones (check out this link: http://www.ruleshistory.com/green.html#stymie ).

This link describes the history of marking balls: http://www.ruleshistory.com/green.html#marking

Hope this helps

I want to know waht is the highest golf score in PGA History

"Mark James' 111 in the 1978 Italian Open is the highest recorded score on the European Tour."

"The record on the European Tour for highest single-hole score is 20. The unfortunate holder of that record is Philippe Porquier of France, who recorded the score at the 1978 French Open. The French Open must have some tough holes, because Ian Woosnam took a 16 on one hole there in 1986.

The PGA Tour does not keep this record, unfortunately, but here are some of the more famous high scores in PGA Tour history:

* Tom Weiskopf took a 13 on the par-3 12th at Augusta National during the 1980 Masters.
* In 2005, Billy Casper recorded a 14 on the par-3 No. 16 at Augusta National during The Masters.
* Porky Oliver took 16 on a par-3 at the Bing Crosby Pro-Am in 1954.
* The highest single-hole score we can find a record of in a non-major PGA Tour event: John Daly (which somehow doesn't seem surprising) took 18 on the par-5 No. 6 hole in the final round of the 1998 Bay Hill Invitational. Daly kept going for the green and kept hitting it into the water – six times, total.
* The highest single-hole score we can find a record of in the U.S. Open (the USGA also does not keep this record officially): Ray Ainsley scored a 19 on the par-4 No. 16 hole at Cherry Hills Country Club in 1938."

I searched and searched but couldn't find anything on a highest 18-hole score in PGA history.
