How do i shoot low 90′s in Golf?

Posted by admin

i am a 27.1 handicapper and want to get down to about a 20 by the end of this year what is a key factor to practice to get your handicap lower?

simple, start now! do this! #1 hit a bucket of balls on the range twice a week. ( make sure you hit every ball with every iron at a target distance and as strait as you can!) do not mindlessley hit balls untill you lose your breath!.. #2 spend a half hour twice a week with your wedges learning to hit the ball from off the green close to the hole! work on your putting stroke too. and #3 get your mental game in shape.. forget about hitting the ball long!!! just hit the fairway i dont care if you have to hit your rescue wood or 5 iron off of a tee .. get the ball in the fairway , remember the fairway is just the road you must travel (one shot at a time) to get to your short game… as stated thats the key your short game .. learn to love it and find time to practice . get deadly at hitting the green from inside 150 and if you miss the green having the abuility to pitch or chip the ball close so you can 1put or at worst two putt you will get your handicap into the single digets quick… take time with every shot on the course and dont add your score till the end of the hole and your total to the end of the round . one shot at a time. even if you can only hit the ball 175 max on a standard cours you should be able to at least bogie or par any hole on the course with a good shortgame. start by hitting and focussing on one shot at a time not the end result . no pressure trust your swing. when you hit a bad shot relax and forget about the bad shot it was a fluke now hit the ball down the fairway and get to the part of the game that your good at .. your killer shortgame.

For most golfers the answer to this question is short game….short game….and short game. More strokes are lost in short game than any place else on the course

If I were you, golf more a lot of amateurs is a lot about short game. I would concentrate a lot of your time on the short game. Once you improved the short game, you can safely work on the long game.

I shot in the low 40′s with a excellent short game and average long game.

Take a few lessons. Golf is a difficult game and you need some basic fundamentals. You probably won’t be able to improve by seven strokes simply by practicing because you will likely just ingrain bad habits into your game. I was at a very similar position once. I was a 26. I took a total of six lessons and it improved my game tremendously down to a 20 in only a few months. I’m now at a 14 just a couple of years later. But do your research. You don’t want some self-proclaim “pro” screwing you up worse.

All good advice. In addition, get into the mind set that you want to play bogey golf. That is one over par on every hole would give you a ninety. Take a little pressure off of trying to shoot par. So a bogey becomes your par and a par becomes your birdie, double bogey is only a bogey. Along with all the other tips here (especially short game – chipping and putting) this helps to keep the pressure off a bit and focus on the improving to the next level.

Everyone here has basically answered “short game”. And I agree. 60%+ or your shots are going to be from inside 100 yards. What I would do is be a little more precise with your game. To shoot 90 or bogey golf, you only need to hit each hole/green in one more shot than regulation and two putt each hole. Next time you play, chart or analyze your game and find out your weaknesses. If you pitch to the green, are you close enough to two putt? How about when you are in a sand trap? Do you three putt a lot? Most higher handicappers do. Mainly because their lag putting is poor; not because they miss a lot of short putts. How about your chipping? Are you able to chip fairly close to the hole to one putt 1/2 the time? If not, then you might want to concentrate here.

Once you have a feel for where you need to focus, spend twice as much time on that area than your usual long shots. You will see the results quite quickly.

    Focus on your short game!!!

Most people when they start playing golf go to the driving range and pick up the driver and try to hit the ball as far as they can. Have you ever heard of the expression “drive for show putt for doe”?

That saying rings loud and true on a golf course. Where do you score in and around the greens. Go out and practice your 120 yard shot and in. Practice a Full PW shot, a Full SW shot and 3/4 each. Then work on your chipping… Finally create a 15′ circle around the hole on the putting green and practive away…

Incase you have not seen the trend here Short Game Short Game Short Game. You will see a drop in your scoring quickly…

    Good luck…
